Description
A VBLS Recurrent Lifeguard applicant has completed VBLS training and worked for VBLS a minimum of one summer.

The purpose of Virginia Beach Lifesaving Service, Inc., is to prevent and to reduce injuries, accidents, and fatalities at the ocean front in its guarded and patrolled areas. 

RESPONSIBILITIES of a VBLS Lifeguard.
  1. Practice PREVENTIVE LIFESAVING at all times.
  2. Scan the water and shoreline between adjacent staffed stands.
  3. Constantly check on adjacent Guards.
  4. Recognize dangerous situations.
  5. Alert Supervisors and other Guards of dangerous situations.
  6. Respond and assist patrons in dangerous situations.
  7. Give proper first aid when needed.
  8. Serve as an ambassador of Virginia Beach.
  9. Maintain your cool and composure at all times.
  10. Provide as much availability as possible from May 11, 2024 through September 15, 2024.

Requirements of a VBLS Lifeguard
  1. Minimum Age Requirement: Must be 16 years of age.
  2. Physical Standard: Swim 500 Meter (or 550 Yard Swim) in 10 minutes or less
  3. Health: Must provide proof of health.
  4. Training: Must complete all prescribed training and paperwork prior to working.
